SSIS has always been a good ETL product. In SQL Server 2012, SSIS got even better. Microsoft simplified certain ETL tasks to help new developers learn SSIS more quickly, and added new features that will be a hit to experienced ETL developers. In this presentation, I'll cover all the new features in SSIS 2012: parameters, new/simplified tasks, new expression functions, data taps for dynamically "tapping" into a data flow pipeline, better handling of invalid metadata references, and a GREATLY improved deployment model. SSIS 2012 also uses the new SQL Server Data Tools interface (the Visual Studio 2010/2012 shell). After watching this presentation, you might very well agree with me that SSIS has gone from "good" to "great" in 2012.
You will learn:
- Examples of the new deployment model and the new dashboard reporting capabilities. For some people, this feature alone is worth the learning curve of the new product, as this feature opens up many new avenues for better ETL management.
